Spring 2015 has finally arrived in the Catskills. After an extremely hard winter we look forward to green grass, lush trees and the spring construction season.
Prepare for a busy summer. The South Kortright waste water system will be installed this year. Completion will be in 2016. Be prepared to stop for construction in the Hamlet.
And speaking of construction, the culvert on County Route 18 near the Robinson Terrace Assisted Living Center will be replaced this summer. The road will be closed for approximately a week. This is a joint project between the Village of Stamford, The Town of Stamford and Delaware County DPW. While the road closing will cause some inconvenience it allows the project to move quickly and saves a substantial amount of money by not having to erect a temporary bridge.
The Town highway department will be working on several roads this summer. The winter was not kind to our roadways. Several roads have been heavily damaged by the deep freeze. We will be repairing them throughout the summer. Our major CHIPS project (Consolidated Highway Improvement Project) will take place on lower Town Brook. As always, please be careful on our roads. Respect our working men and women by driving slowly through construction sites.
Western Catskills is taking applications for home rehabilitation projects. If you have any
questions call them at 652-2823.
There are a number of activities available for your health and entertainment. Walk the Catskill Trail. Visit the Hobart Book Stores. Attend the Stamford Block Party. Fish our rivers. Attend the Hobart Horseshoe Festival and enjoy fireworks in Stamford later. The Women's Writers Festival will once again take place in early fall. The Rotary Car show will once again take place the weekend of July 4th . Frequent our restaurants and renew old friendships. Enjoy the summer.
Finally, government works best when our citizens are involved. Take some time and attend one or several of our Town Board meetings. They are held on the second Wednesday of each month at the Town Hall in Hobart. Meetings start at 7 PM.
Best regards,
